Loher Fort Ring of Kerry
Loher Fort Ring of Kerry is a bit off the beaten path but none the less a very interesting Fort to visit. It was built around 800 AD and possibly built by a local Chieftain to protect animals and as a defensive structure. The walls are built with stones taken from local fields with larger slabs used for doorways and steps in the inner walls. Loher Fort is 2.5 km drive on a quiet road parallel to the Main Ring of Kerry road the road is narrow and not for everyone’s liking but is accessible with a small car park in front of the fort. We could not recommend buses to travel this road at best an 8 seater it is very narrow.
