Kenmare on the Ring of Kerry

Kenmare is a beautiful town situated on the Ring of Kerry.

The Irish name of the town, Neidin, means ‘little nest’. It has a population of over 2200 people. Founded in 1670, the Tourist Board, Bord Fáilte, officially recognised the historical, cultural and environmental significance of Kenmare by bestowing upon it the title of Kerry’s first Heritage Town.

Cradled in the heart of Kenmare Bay, Kenmare is the perfect location in which to discover the South West of Ireland, linking the famous Ring of Kerry with the Ring of Beara. It is also located near the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Mangerton Mountain and Caha Mountains and is a popular hill-walking destination.

This town is famous for its breath-taking views, gourmet food and stunning scenery.

There is a wide variety of activities which include stunning walks, fishing, horse riding, golf, boat trips and various tours. There is also a large variety of craft shops, galleries, traditional pubs, restaurants and cafes and also offers many outdoor pursuits.

To the north of Kenmare is the Killarney National Park which boasts 10, 000 hectares of woodlands and mountains, with spectacular views of the lakes of Killarney.

Whether it is walking on the mountains, cruising on the bay, horse riding, touring or soaking up the best of the music, you will not be disappointed in Kenmare.
